You know what's funny?

My mom is incredibly organized. I mean, crazy-awesome organized. She uses her day planner religiously, files and indexes interesting articles, and alphabetizes her spices. So, it really hasn't been a difficult stretch for me to come in and pay the bills or cancel/modify her appointments. She made it very easy.

The funny part, is among her to-do items I found a sheet entitled "Building a 'Red Book' of Important Family Documents." It was dated April 18, 2006. I'll bet it went into her to-do pile just recently.

I highly recommend it. Make one just in case.

Wish I could credit someone for its authorship. Maybe one of her ward members knows who did it. [update: my mom says she credits Cindy Willman for giving it to her.]

Going to see her now. I'll post when I get back. And I'm getting the camera too. Yay.

  1. I think it may be the one handed out by Amy Jukes in the ward; we did this earlier this year for Relief Society.

Maybe I should move it back to the top of my to-do pile...

  2. I have fits of organization punctuated by complete laziness.

I did a file on the computer a while back with this info but have yet to compile hard copies together and make back up copies.

need to add it to my to-do

and yes this has Amy Jukes' expertise all over it.

  3. I know I credit Merrilee Boyack. Author, speaker.. She's been pushing this idea because of the fires she's dealt with as acting mayor while living in San Diego County and as an attorney. I don't know if the idea originated with her however.
I have one that is partially complete thanks to her. Great idea!

  5. I'm not positive, but I think we has a R.S. class back in first ward on this Red Book idea headed up by Melissa Clark? Organization is what helps keep us Moms together, so to speak. I'm going to look for my notes on it as well, it was a great class. Wow hope I can find it. Ha Ha.

    Betsy we love you,

  6. I don't have a comment on the Red Book idea as it appears it came around before my time here. We do a variation of it that I learned about while attending an estate planning class at Education Week years ago. Our children are glad we have things in some kind of order.
To Betsy, Just can't begin to tell you how much you are on my mind. I wake up thinking of you and go to bed thinking of you and you are in multiple prayers in between. Having been through something similar with my my husband exactly two years ago I understand the emotional ups and downs you all must be going through. When we first moved here, I quickly identified you as a spiritual giant, so very friendly to everyone and just so fun to be around. Jim and I attended the temple on Friday with you as the focus and pray the Lord's tender mercies will be visited upon each little heart cell, that they might beat in synch for the right length of time and that your wonderful spirit will be back in our midst as soon as possible. You are loved...

  7. I was just thinking about this the other day. When we moved to texas I stopped paying the bills (I was in charge in az).. If anything were to happen I would be a little lost. Okay a lot a bit lost!

Thanks for posting Elise! And thanks for leaving it behind for her to find Betsy!
